The Yaka Arrow is the signature weapon of Yondu Udonta, an original founder of The Guardians of the Galaxy. Yaka is a rare element found only on the planet Centauri-IV. The arrow was created by the native Centaurians. A yaka arrow can actually change its direction (but not speed) in response to certain high-octave whistle-sounds that some Centaurians can produce. Yondu is so skillful at controlling his arrows that he can cause an arrow to return to his hand or weave its way through a crowd of people without touching them. That is the original concept from the comic book.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe took the yaka arrow concept to a whole new level.
In the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Yondu still uses a weapon that responds to his whistle commands with remarkable agility, but this one doesn’t require a bow. There are two primary differences between the movie version and the comics version. First, Yondu needs a cybernetic implant to have full control. Second, it is self-propelled rather like a missile and can change its speed. The result is one of the coolest weapons ever seen on screen.
